Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo (JMN) International Airport was established in 1959 as Bulawayo Airport. In 2013, the new rehabilitated and extended passenger terminal building was commissioned and has the capacity to handle 1, 5 million passengers per annum. The airport was renamed Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport in honour of one of the founding fathers of Zimbabwe, the late Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Dr. Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo. The airport is located in the second largest city of Zimbabwe, the City of Kings and Queens- Bulawayo, and is 25 km to the north of the city. The airport provides access to world heritage sites namely Khami National Monument (ancient architecture) and Matobo Hills (bold heads). Bulawayo is a cultural city and plays host to a number of cultural festivals such as the Intwasa. Bulawayo Metropolitan has a population of over 1, 5 million people.

  • The airport has two (2) runways 2,588 metres long by 45 metres wide and 1,347 metres long by 30 metres wide respectively.

  • Airport Rescue & Fire Fighting Services is Category 7 and can be upgraded as need arises.
  • The main runway has CAT I Instrument Landing System (ILS) complemented by associated systems.
  • 14-hour operations that include Air Traffic Control, Meteorological services, Aviation Security and Fire Cover
  • Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) and Immigration operate between 0600hrs to 1900hrs but available after hours by prior arrangement.
  • Fuel facilities with a handling capacity of 255,000 litres JET A1 and 45,000 litres AVGAS currently operated by Zuva Petroleum and Puma Aviation.
